(Editor's Note: The following letter was sent to Nassau County Legislator Edward Mangano (17th LD) and 2nd Precinct Inspector Richard Meyer.)
If any residents of Hicksville or the surrounding area have the opportunity to give their input on the establishment of a new fast food restaurant in your area, please take a look at the parking area surrounding Taco Bell on South Oyster Bay Road, just a bit north of Old Country Road, on the west side.
This fast food outfit has been here for quite a few years, but every morning you can walk into the parking lot, which was formerly dominated by Great American, and literally walk over mounds of garbage, half-eaten food, napkins, bags, etc. which have been discarded by the patrons of this place.
Taco Bell does have a few garbage cans right in front of their premises, but this is just too far away for these people to go to deposit their waste. They find it much easier to roll down their windows and toss it on the ground.
Let's face it: We are our own worst enemy. Would it be too much to ask for a little law enforcement in this area to get the attention of these people, and maybe teach them a few lessons on community living that their parents have neglected?
