Hicksville Fire District Vehicle Off to Louisiana
The Hicksville Fire District issued a public referendum this past September to allow it to donate a 1999 Chevy Suburban on behalf of the entire Hicksville community to the Hurricane Katrina emergency relief effort. Soon after, officials were pleased to learn that its insurance company, VFIS representative Hubbinette-Cowell Associates, Inc., would pick up the cost of transporting the vehicle.

Michael Magro Foundation Holds 1st Annual Fundraiser
The Michael Magro Foundation raised $50,000 during the organization's "Evening of Tasting and Giving" held in September at the Woodlands in Woodbury. The event benefited Winthrop-University Hospital's Pediatric Inpatient Center and Cancer Center for Kids.

Hicksville's Liz Flahavan Scores in 2005 Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5K Run
The 18th annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday Run, held on the roads of Bethpage on Dec. 17, was a tremendous success, and was a big score for Hicksville's "First Lady of Running" Liz Flahavan. Flahavan's time was 20 minutes, 43 seconds - a 6:41 per mile pace that brought her to the finish line at Bethpage High School in 3rd place in the highly competitive women's 40-44 age group.
