My name is John Mohrman, Sr. and on Dec. 13th, I will be voting for Bob Dwyer and here's why: Bobby has always given to his community, his heart, his time, his best effort and so has his family ever since he became a firefighter over 30 years ago.

Now, after 15 years as a commissioner of the Hicksville Fire Department, his commitment has not diminished, but in fact has grown and not because of the so-called perks that you've been reading about. He truly believes in the things he's doing and that this is his calling, 30 years is a long time to waste if it isn't! Engulfing yourself in helping others is the true reward of all firefighters, need I say more.

Come out and vote for Bobby Dwyer with your family, friends and neighbors on Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Hicksville Fire headquarters on East Marie Street opposite Peppercorns.

John Mohrman Sr.

As of Nov. 9, I have lived in Hicksville for 53 years. I have known Bob Dwyer for 45 of those years, since he started in kindergarten with my daughter Gladys Ann at Burns Avenue School.

He has responded to many emergencies at my house. He was also instrumental in saving my son Rich from more serious burns from a grease fire at Cantiague Park in 1974. In 1986, when a small group began meetings to reactivate our civic association (the NorthWest Civic Association), Bob was one of the fine people involved. He served our civic, including as 1st vice president and acting president. He worked very hard to help make our civic the success it is.

I certainly believe he is sincere and works very hard to be a good and effective commissioner for his constituents. Until this election, I never heard of Mr. Manson. Let's keep in mind to elect the most qualified of these gentlemen. Let their record speak for itself.

We would like to request your support for candidate Robert Dwyer. The election will be held this coming Tuesday evening, Dec. 13 at the East Marie Street firehouse between the hours of 4 and 9 p.m.

Robert Dwyer is an "active" member of our community. He and his wife Karen have lived in Hicksville all of their lives. Bob is a member of the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years and he has volunteered his time through various organizations such as HBA, CYO, HABC, the Northwest Civic Association, PTSA, our local Republican Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Nassau County Exempts Association to name a few. Many of you know Bob because he has worked beside you through activities of these various organizations.

The Hicksville Board of Fire Commissioners has always provided our firefighters and our community with the very best equipment and the most up-to-date training available. As parents of two young firefighters, we applaud our fire commissioners. We are confident that our sons and their fellow firefighters are able to perform this invaluable service to our community safely, efficiently and with the professionalism of a "paid department."

As our community continues to grow and mature, and throughout the history of our fire department, many changes have been made to ensure that we remain one of the very best in the state of New York. Over the years, as a result of several incidents, changes have been implemented and additional or new equipment has been purchased specifically to tackle certain tasks and obstacles. For instance, we can remember many years ago after there was a fire on the top floor of the old "Gertz" Building at the Mid Island Plaza (currently, Macy's at the Broadway Mall), the need for a higher ladder truck was recognized and addressed.

When our firefighters responded to an over-turned tanker that was leaking gasoline at the intersection of Newbridge Road and Old Country Road, many necessary changes were made afterward to ensure the safety of our firemen and our community. Additional Hazard Material equipment and training was provided and state-of-the-art, Haz-Mat protective gear was purchased.

Several years ago, a new firehouse was built on Levittown Parkway to help protect the residents and homes in the southwest part of Hicksville. The traffic on Old Country Road at various times of the day made it dangerous and extremely difficult for members to safely respond to calls quickly. To improve the quality of service, and to alleviate this concern, a new firehouse was erected.

It is very important to us that our firefighters continue to get the very best training and equipment that is available and we'd like to thank each of you for taking the time to read this letter. We ask that you make every effort to come down to the firehouse on Dec. 13 and vote for Robert Dwyer. Introduce yourself and tell him that the Beckers sent you! Bring all of your family members, friends and neighbors who are registered to vote along with you! We truly appreciate your support and we know Bob Dwyer does too! He is the right man for this job.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the firehouse on Dec. 13.

Mary Beth and Robert Becker Sr.
