50th Anniversary of the End of Steam Trains
Steam locomotives once again chugged into Hicksville on Saturday, Oct. 8. Engine bells clanged and steam wafted across the handsome railroad station and water tower. It was all a fantasy, of course; the commuters and passengers, gateman and conductor and the impressive presence of Engines 35 and 39. But for many people afflicted with nostalgia, the 50th anniversary of the end of steam program, which took place at Hicksville's William P. Bennett Community Center, recalled the end of an Age of Steam Trains on Long Island, was a charming recollection.

Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League
Today was a little cool at first and then a cool breeze came up. Apparently it affected the golfers because the scores were not too good today. We had 39 golfers and only 23 pars (nobody got more than three) and no birdies. Only seven men managed to shoot par or less.
