It was a soggy day. It was cloudy and overcast when we started the tournament. It started to rain lightly after about half the foursomes teed off. It only rained for a few minutes and we thought that we would dodge the bullet once more. Not so - about halfway through the tournament, the skies opened and it came down in buckets. We ran for the clubhouse to get out of the downpour. After about 20-25 minutes, it stopped and the sun even came out for a minute. We continued the game and most of the league was able to finish before it started to rain again. This time it was a light rain and the last three groups finished the round in the rain.

We started with 32 men and we only lost four when the heavy rain hit. We had 33 pars but five men got more than half of them. Sean McGuinness, Frank Drasby and Jim Greene each got 4 pars and John Pellegrino and Dave Malle each got five. We also had 1 birdie on the par 3, 157-yard, seventh hole by Frank Larke.

The next tournament was held on Thursday, Sept. 22 and was a make-up scramble tournament.

Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 11 or less. Flight B is for players with a handicap of 12 or more. The league is a 100 percent handicap league. Any man who is 55 years of age is eligible.

Note: Because of the rapid growth of the club this year, it regrets that it must limit its membership. The time involved to make up the foursomes and the waiting time for all the groups to finish is prohibitive. If you have already called to say that you wish to join the club, it will accept you, but after that it will have to put you on a waiting list. For more information call Lou Neumann at 681-2056.
