Should Hicksville Incorporate?
While Hicksville's civic leaders have not made a decision for or against incorporation at this time, they are researching and weighing the pros and cons of village government. In an effort to provide the community with more detailed information, the NorthWest Civic Association's Sept. 19 meeting, which took place at the William P. Bennett Community Center, focused on the topic: "What Would Incorporation Mean for Hicksville?"
Majority Legislators Call for Sex Offender Residency Restrictions
The county's Democratic majority has proposed a law that would greatly enhance Megan's Law, placing residency restrictions on registered Level II and III - the most egregious - sex offenders. This law is an extension of legislation county lawmakers enacted which mandates the notification of moderate and high risk convicted sex offenders' whereabouts. If passed, the residency restriction law would give Nassau County one of the harshest sex offender laws on the books.
Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League
It was a soggy day. It was cloudy and overcast when we started the tournament. It started to rain lightly after about half the foursomes teed off. It only rained for a few minutes and we thought that we would dodge the bullet once more. Not so - about halfway through the tournament, the skies opened and it came down in buckets. We ran for the clubhouse to get out of the downpour. After about 20-25 minutes, it stopped and the sun even came out for a minute. We continued the game and most of the league was able to finish before it started to rain again. This time it was a light rain and the last three groups finished the round in the rain.
