The Levittown Athletic Club (LAC) Girls Softball League is starting up Travel Teams for the 2006 season. LAC is associated with the Babe Ruth League and girls from Levittown, Bethpage, Hicksville, East Meadow, Bellmore, Farmingdale, Seaford, Wantagh and Massapequa play in the league.

LAC's 10 and Under girls won the Babe Ruth Metro New York Championship in 2004 and 2005 as well as took home the 2005 Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. The 12 and Under team also won the 2005 Babe Ruth Metro New York Championship.

The Travel Teams will be 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U. Girls that play on these travel teams will also need to register in the regular season, which runs April through June, and must attend a minimum of 50 percent of their games; this is a Babe Ruth rule.

LAC will hold tryouts for all of the travel teams on Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11 at Azalea Road Field, near Periwinkle Road. 14U tryouts will be from 9 to 11 a.m.; 10U and 16U will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the 12U tryouts from 3 to 5 p.m. Girls should wear sneakers or plastic cleats and bring gloves and bats. There is no fee for trying out.

The registration fee for a Travel Team member is $350, based on a 15-girl roster. For additional information, call Joel Bearman at 731-1454 or e-mail JBEAR359@aol.com.
