The Hicksville Community Council will hold its first meeting of the fall season on Thursday, Sept. 15 at the William P. Bennett Community Center, located on West Cherry Street. At this time, Jim Reed, a representative from the Nassau County's Department of Consumer Affairs, will address the issue of identity theft. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Identity theft is a serious crime. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years and thousands of dollars cleaning up the mess thieves have made of their good name and credit record. In the meantime, victims of identity theft may lose job opportunities, be refused loans or be accused of crimes they did not commit. Humiliation, anger and frustration are among the feelings victims experience as they navigate the process of rescuing their identity.
Also at the meeting, Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman will discuss the county's discount drug card program. At this time, drug cards will be distributed to those who do not have one.
This meeting's program is made possible through Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Mary McCaffery's Lecture Series #1. Hazel and John Ptacek will provide refreshments. Residents are encouraged to attend and bring a neighbor or friend.
