According to Mangano the project is necessary to correct serious safety issues associated with Plainview Road. "A main component of this project is to install a new drainage system designed to prevent water from accumulating on the roadway," Mangano said. "Presently, the poor drainage leads to dangerous road icing and flooding."
In addition to correcting drainage issues, new curbing and handicap accessible sidewalks and improved turning radiuses will be constructed to promote pedestrian safety. Diseased trees and trees with compromised root systems that present hazards are also being removed. Residents who wish to have new trees planted in front of their homes will receive new trees. Finally, the roadway will receive new under pavement, asphalt and striping.
The project was 10 years in the making and is being supervised by the Nassau County Department of Public Works. The improvement project is expected to be completed by spring 2006.
Mangano is thankful to his fellow legislators for supporting the improvement project as well as to the Nassau County Department of Public Works for their supervision and New York State Assemblyman Rob Walker and Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rose Walker for their assistance with obtaining easements in order to make this project possible.
