At 13, Michael Magro was a young man who loved life, his family, friends and the sport of lacrosse. He smiled a lot, was considered a peacemaker by his friends and a good "sport" when he participated in events. Loved by all, Michael lost his battle to leukemia while attending the seventh grade at the Hicksville Middle School.
While playing lacrosse for Hicksville Middle School, Michael commented on several occasions, "Why don't we have a scoreboard? All the other schools seem to have one!" With this in mind, the Michael Magro Foundation, through generous contributions from the Hicksville Community and with the approval of the Hicksville Schools Facilities Administrator, purchased the scoreboard. The scoreboard has a dedication panel on it with the Hicksville Middle School Meteors logo on the left side and Michael's logo (a penguin with a lacrosse stick) and name on the right side.
The Hicksville School District, however, has decided that they do not want the dedication panel on the scoreboard and, as of this week, has not answered any of the Magro family's correspondence.
Many of the Magro family supporters will be attending the Hicksville Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 8:30 p.m. to pursue this issue further. If you have an opinion on this issue and would like to express it, or if you would just like to show your support, please join us at the meeting.
As always, thanks to all of you who have always been so supportive to the Magro family. It is, as always, deeply appreciated.
