Magin-Arecco, Walker Vie for 15th Assembly Seat
Residents of the 15th Assembly District (A.D.) will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 24 to cast their vote in a special election. At this time, Republican Robert Walker and Democrat Kathleen Magin-Arecco will vie for the assembly seat, which has been vacated by Republican Assemblywoman Donna Ferrara. Ferrara, a Republican, resigned last month in order to take a job as commissioner with the New York State Workers Compensation Board.

Residents Approve $91.4M Spending Plan
On May 17, Hicksville residents voted 1,789 to 1,558 in favor of the school district's 2005-2006 spending plan of $91,396,481. As a result of the 7.97 percent budget-to-budget increase, the district's tax rate is expected to be $217.55 per $100 of assessed valuation. Therefore, the tax bill for the average Class I homeowner will be approximately $3,640, a $305 increase over the current year's average tax bill of $3,335.
