Two Hicksville men were killed in two separate automobile accidents this week.
Joseph Minichello, 55, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sunday, April 10 at 9:10 p.m. According to police, Minichello was struck by a westbound automobile as he attempted to cross Old Country Road in the vicinity of Hansley Avenue. The driver of the auto that struck Minichello left the scene without stopping and police believe it to be a sports utility vehicle-type. Police asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
Less than 12 hours later, on Monday, April 11 at 6 a.m., Nassau County homicide detectives were called to the scene of an automobile accident at Old Country Road and Levittown Parkway.
According to police, 33-year-old Ganesit Shoney of Uniondale was operating a 1993 Volvo eastbound on Old Country Road when he was in a collision with a 1993 Cadillac operated by Philip Mastropolo, 44, of Hicksville. At the time of the collision, Mastropolo was traveling northbound on Levittown Parkway, making a left hand turn onto westbound Old Country Road. The force of the collision sent Mastropolo's vehicle into a refrigerator truck owned by Kinds Food Service of Holtsville. The truck was stopped at the traffic light on westbound Old Country Road at the Levittown Parkway intersection.
Shoney was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he was admitted and listed in stable condition. Mastropolo succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured. The Hicksville Fire Department was on the scene. Police impounded both cars and no charges were filed. Police, however, are still investigating.
