Former Hicksville resident Robert F. Willis passed away on January 4, 2005. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Willis resided in Hicksville until 1987 when he and his wife, Betty, moved to Melbourne Beach, FL. Mr. Willis retired from the New York City Police Department after 30 years of service, including serving on the Manhattan South Homicide Task Force and as serving as inspector general of the NYC Health Department Medical Examiners Officer.
While living in Hicksville, Mr. Willis was president of the Hicksville American Little League and commissioner of St. Ignatius' CYO Basketball. He also volunteered in many other areas. After moving to Florida, Mr. Willis continued volunteering in community services such as Guardian Ad Litem in Brevard County.
Mr. Willis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty; his daughter, Kathy; sons Bob and Jack; and grandchildren Elizabeth and Dennis.
Sarah Barbone, of Hicksville, died on Feb. 9, 2005. Beloved wife of the late Rocco Sr. Loving mother of Rocco Jr. (Susan) and Michele Caruso (Joseph). Devoted sister of Carmela Bencivenga (Dominic). Cherished grandmother of Anthony, Geena, Angela and Nicole. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Mass at St. Ignatius RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Alice L. Wagner, formerly of Hickville, died on Feb. 15, 2005. She was co-founder of the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Wm. M. Gouse Jr. VFW Post 3211, and a proud veteran of WWII. Beloved wife of Vernon C. Loving mother of William of Durham, NC, and the late Jon. Dearest mother-in-law of Margaret. Cherished grandmother of Matthew and Melissa of LI, Michal of Littleton, NH, Evan of Raleigh, NC, and Jordan of Durham. Arrangements were made by the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home. Religious services with the Rev. Wayne Puls officiating. Funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. with graveside committal at 11 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, the Rev. Chip Froehlich officiating. The family would prefer donations to Trinity Lutheran Church, 40 W. Nicholai St., Hicksville, NY 11801 in her memory.
