Jericho's famed Milleridge Inn was hit by fire early Sunday morning. The fire, which was reported around 4 a.m. in the second and third floor office area, apparently started in an area above automatic fire sprinklers and burned through the roof. Sprinklers controlled some of the fire, but quick action by Jericho firefighters confined the fire to a small area, with damage to the roof. Jericho was assisted by units from the Syosset, Plainview, East Norwich and Hicksville Fire Departments. The restaurant is open for business.

Hicksville firefighters were busy last week. On Tuesday, Dec. 21 alone Hicksville Fire Dispatchers received 16 alarms. The department responded to seven medical calls, four fire calls, two Haz-Mat calls, two motor vehicle accidents and a mutual-aid call to Farmingdale. During the past week, the Haz-Mat team also responded to calls in Syosset, Bethpage and Farmingdale for two natural gas leaks and a leaking gasoline tank.
