Neighbor Rescues Man From Burning Apartment House
Hicksville firefighters battled a raging fire in a two-story apartment house on West Cherry Street on Thursday, Dec. 23. The fire, which fire investigators state was arson, destroyed the structure. The alarm was reported via 911 at 9:14 p.m.

Fire at the Milleridge Inn
Jericho's famed Milleridge Inn was hit by fire early Sunday morning. The fire, which was reported around 4 a.m. in the second and third floor office area, apparently started in an area above automatic fire sprinklers and burned through the roof. Sprinklers controlled some of the fire, but quick action by Jericho firefighters confined the fire to a small area, with damage to the roof. Jericho was assisted by units from the Syosset, Plainview, East Norwich and Hicksville Fire Departments. The restaurant is open for business.

Westbury speedster Adam Zimmerman, 21, out kicked Kevin Cunningham of Old Bethpage and Guillermo Fuentes of Fresh Meadows to finish in first place overall in the 17th annual edition of the Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run through the roads of Bethpage on Dec. 18.
