Fire Commissioner Voting Hours to Remain the Same
The Hicksville Board of Fire Commissioners will not be extending its voting hours for the district's commissioner elections, which will take place this year on Tuesday, Dec. 14. On Nov. 2, the board passed a motion to keep the voting hours at 6 to 9 p.m., despite a signed petition submitted late last month by the Briggs Neighborhood Committee requesting that voting hours be extended. The over 500 residents who signed the petition were in favor of extending voting hours to 1 to 9 p.m.
Reptiles Rescued From the Cold
On Tuesday, Nov. 9, officials from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), the New York State Department of Environmental Conversation (DEC) and Nassau County police descended on Hicksville's LI Reptile Museum in a effort to save its animals from freezing to death.
Crusaders Are Super Bowl Champs
The Hicksville Youth Football Association is proud to announce that on Saturday, Nov. 13 the 12-year-old Hicksville Crusaders football team won the Nassau County Football League Championship, beating the Baldwin Bombers 12-8 in the Super Bowl, which was played at the blustery and cold Inwood Park.
Hofstra Basketball Supports Island Harvest Food Rescue
Island Harvest, Long Island's Source Authority on Food Rescue, is once again getting help in its fight to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island from its friends at Hofstra University. Fans attending the double header basketball game on Wednesday, Nov. 24, are invited to bring donations of non-perishable canned or packaged foods to help feed our neighbors this holiday season. Donors will receive a free team poster of the Hofstra men's and women's basketball teams. Food collection bins will be located at the entrances of the Hofstra University Arena.
