Levinson Proposes a Better Way to Fund School Districts
During a press conference on Oct. 4, Harvey Levinson, chairman of the Nassau County Board of Assessors, announced a proposal to eliminate the school property tax altogether and replace it with a modest income tax. In addition, the assessor would also like to see a set commercial property school tax rate created throughout the county.
Near Tragic Accident Downs Utility Pole, Power Line
On Monday, Nov. 8, shortly after 3 p.m., Hicksville firefighters were alerted to a freak car accident on New South Road near Gerald Avenue. A car driven by an unidentified female left the roadway, struck a large utility pole, snapped it in half and then continued on for an estimated 50 feet before crashing into a chain link fence and coming to rest against a tree. The crash downed a power line, which energized a chain link fence that stretched for five blocks.
Crusaders Advance to NC Youth Football League Super Bowl
On Sunday Nov. 7, the 12-year-old Hicksville Crusaders beat the Hempstead Tigers 23-0. The playoff victory advances the Crusaders to the Nassau County Youth Football League Super Bowl. The team is comprised of 12 year olds from Hicksville, Levittown and East Meadow. The Crusaders sent their captains to mid-field for the coin toss, which the Crusaders won and elected to receive. And why wouldn't they elect to receive, after all they had not been stopped on their first possession in the last six games scoring on each and every first possession.
