Blaze Destroys Bruce Avenue Home
At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, the Hicksville Fire Department received a call for a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with flames engulfing both the first and second stories of the Bruce Avenue home. The homeowners, Glenn and Adele Werneburg, and their two sons were not home at the time of the blaze.

Proposed Hotel Sparks Opposition Among Residents
The Hicksville Gardens Civic Association's Oct. 28 meeting was standing room only as residents attended to voice their opposition to a proposal to construct a "lodging" place at 594 South Broadway at Gerald Avenue - the site of the former T.J. Courtney's restaurant. Some 440 residents attended the meeting while more than 100 were turned away due to limited capacity in the library's community room.

Hockey Alumni Play 11th Annual Games
"Old-time hockey" is a popular rally cry among hockey fans lamenting the rough-and-tumble days of bygone eras. It was also one of the themes of the 11th Annual Hicksville Hockey Alumni Games and the Hall of Fame inductions.
