Every day our volunteer firefighters go to their respective firehouses when the alarm sounds to protect us. I, for one, would certainly not want to see their safety compromised due to a handful of misguided residents.
Yet that's exactly what will happen if the Station #2 Improvement Project is rejected because the local neighbors didn't want it in their backyards. I'm glad that the majority of our board of fire commissioners had the foresight and personal integrity to look past these selfish complaints and approve this vital project.
These brave men and women are currently working out of cramped quarters, which must be upgraded, due to mandated federal safety requirements. The fact that a few nearby residents have been spreading inaccurate rumors in an attempt to stop the project cannot and must not prevent the district from moving forward with improvements.
Do you also know these are the same people who would be the first to complain if the crowded fire station conditions caused a delay in response to a fire or emergency in their homes!
Let's rally around our commissioners. They have made the correct decision. It's time to modernize Station #2.
