With Faith, Local Artist Overcomes Hardship
Years ago when Barbara Lewin joined a Methodist Youth Fellowship, she felt a strong spiritual calling. Originally, she sought guidance under the patient tutelage of her pastor in her quest to become a deaconess in her church. But, mused Lewin, "the Lord had a different direction in mind for me - in my writing and in my art."

HFD Responds to Building Fire
On Thursday, July 29 at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Hicksville Fire Department was alerted to a building fire at Durante Equipment Company at 60 Bethpage Road. The first units on the scene reported heavy smoke, prompting an alarm for a working building fire. Mutual aid was received from the Jericho, Bethpage and Plainview Fire Departments. The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes under the direction of Chief Steve Doucette. At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation. Photo by Cathy Greenfield

Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League Update
Despite the real threat of rain, the Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League had 39 men show up to play golf on Aug. 5. There were a couple of drops of rain a few times, but each time it stopped in a minute. There was a cold wind, however, the tournament was still played. The league also played the second round of the match play tournament and eight men advanced to the next round There was only one birdie and that was Ed Talbot on the 259 yard, par 4 - 1st hole. There were 28 pars, but only one man got more than two. David Malle had pars on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 9th holes.
