(Editor's Note; The following letter was sent to the Hicksville Illustrated News and to Hicksville Fire Commissioners Robert Dwyer and Charles Hearon.)

On behalf of the senior citizens who live in Hicksville, I urge the Hicksville Board of Fire Commissioners to extend the voting hours for the fire commissioner election in December.

Seniors encompass a large population of residents who live within the Hicksville Fire District. Because the election takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. in December, traditionally a cold and sometimes icy or snowy month, it becomes a safety issue for seniors who wish to exercise their democratic privilege.

I urge you to inform the public that you have taken into consideration the seniors of Hicksville and have designated new voting hours: 1 to 9 p.m.
