NYSDEC Site Update: Former Sylvania Electric Products Facility
The Former Sylvania Electric Products Facility, located at 70, 100 and 140 Cantiague Rock Road in Hicksville, manufactured nuclear fuel rods made of uranium and thorium between 1952 and 1966. Wastes from the manufacturing processes were reportedly disposed of onsite. The site is currently being investigated and remediated under voluntary cleanup agreements between GTE Operations Support Incorporated and The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).

NYSDOH to Hold Public Meeting July 14
The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has completed its review of cancer incidence in the Jericho Gardens area of Westbury. This study was requested due to concerns about the former Sylvania Electric Products Facility, located adjacent to this community in Hicksville.

Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League Update
The Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held a scramble tournament on June 17. The winning team of Lou Rezoagli, Bob Lasky, Ed Farrell and Wes Villazon got an eagle on the first hole, a par 4, 259 yards. That enabled them to win with a score of 28. Second place was won by Jerry Skaee, Dave Malle, Frank Drasby and Bill Cheslock. They were one stroke behind with a team score of 29.
