Richard Humann, 50-year Hicksville resident and commissioner of the Hicksville Water District, was recently elected by his peers for the sixth consecutive year to serve as treasurer of the Nassau-Suffolk Water Commissioners' Association, a professional organization of water districts administered by locally-elected water commissioners. The association will continue its ongoing mission of maintaining the excellence of the Long Island public water supply.
A Hicksville Water Commissioner since 1984, Humann is a member of the American Water Works Association and the Long Island Water Conference. He has had a distinguished 36-year career with the United States Postal Service. Beginning as a letter carrier, he rose through the ranks to become delivery supervisor of the mammoth Hicksville Post Office, managing over 80 employees. Prior to retiring in 2000, Humann was postmaster at the Jericho Post Office.
A graduate of Hicksville High School, Humann is a member of Hicksville's community council, chamber of commerce and the fire department, which he joined in 1965 and currently serves as financial secretary. He is also a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, where he serves on the church council and has volunteered his time as a local girls soccer coach.
Humann and his wife Bette will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in 2004. They spend their spare time enjoying activities with their four children and five grandchildren.
