On Wednesday, April 28 at approximately 2 p.m. the Hicksville Fire Department received a call for an auto accident between a large dump truck and a red Toyota at the intersection of Old Country Road and Halsey Street. The truck was traveling east on Old Country Road and the car was heading out of the Sunoco Gas Station at the corner of Old Country Road and Newbridge Road and crashed into the side of the mounted gas tanks on the truck.
The impact caused a large spill of diesel fuel as the two vehicles traveled approximately one block to Halsey Street. Multiple Hicksville Fire Department and Nassau County Haz-Mat units were called to the scene to clean up the spill and to off-load the remaining fuel in the truck's gas tanks. The Hicksville Fire Department operations were under the direction of Assistant Chief Robert Chiz. There were no injuries reported at the scene. Old Country Road was closed eastbound during the clean-up.
