The Hicksville Ice Hockey Club 14 and Under Team will host Wantagh/Seaford in a rare afternoon game at Cantiague Park in Hicksville on Wednesday, March 3 at 4 p.m. The High School Hockey League of Nassau County (HSHLNC) is attempting to attract more players to its league by obtaining weekday afternoon slots and Wednesdays at Cantiague Park seems to be the opportune time for those teams who can participate in a 4 p.m. time slot.
The Hicksville team is currently one point out of fourth place and in a heated battle for the last playoff spot in the 14 & Under Division. A win over the Baymen on March 3 would move them into third place with three games remaining in their season.
To date, the two teams have squared off three times with Hicksville losing two games (5-7 and 3-5) and winning their last battle by a score of 6-5. In this final matchup, Hicksville would have to win by three goals to ensure the deciding factor in a "tie-breaker" situation.
This is an all important battle for the Hicksville team but not their first this season. Battling back from a six-game losing streak before Thanksgiving, the team has posted a 3-2-1 record in their last six games and defeated each of the other teams in their division at least once with the exception of Bellmore-Merrick, who holds first place with a 14-1-1 record. The Stars not only plan on making the playoffs, their goal is third place so they do not have to play the first place team in the first round of the playoffs scheduled to begin March 12.
