The Hicksville Flash entered their first tournament of the winter on Jan. 4 at SUNY Stony Brook. The team took a split squad to the tournament: Hicksville Flash White and Hicksville Flash Red.
The white team included Danny Alves, Hector Valdes, Timothy Sciascia, Anthony Geslak and Kevin Cardoza. The red team included Zaul Buruca, John Mira, Michael Sanchez, Kyle Bloecker and Carlos Mendez.
Each team played five games against two teams from Center Moriches, Stony Brook and Bayside. In the end, both Hicksville teams tied for second place. Afterwards, the teams took their trophies over to Subway in Hicksville and celebrated with sandwiches and sodas.
Hicksville Flash coaches Vito Sciascia, Paul Masterson and Randy Bruckner were honored and proud of their U15 boys soccer team for being named LIJSL Sportsmanship Winners for the fall 2003 season. The team will receive their award at the 22nd Annual Soccer Convention on March 6 at the Long Island Hilton.
The Sportsmanship Award not only shows the character of the players and coaches, but also the parents, who stand on the sidelines and cheer the team on through all kinds of weather.
