Holy Family's Nicole DeGennaro put on a dazzling display of hustle, which translated into numerous steals, recoveries of loose balls, and a bevy of floor burns. In addition, Nicole also poured in 13 points, leading Holy Family to a 52-27 victory over Holy Name.
Nicole got offensive support from Erin Breen (with 12 points), Courtney Breen (with 10 points) and Nicole Robison (with 5 points), Jackie Vitanza and Jennifer Osorio not only scored 6 points each, but also dominated the backboards. Katie Leo garnered 3 steals and 3 assists.
Holy Family upped their record to 6-1.
In the season's most anticipated showdown, undefeated St. Ignatius visited once beaten Holy Family in the battle of Hicksville Titans. Both teams enjoyed full court pressure and an up tempo offense which combined with both teams' unrelenting hustle and intensity made for a wildly entertaining and exciting contest.
When the dust finally settled, St. Ignatius had eked out a thrilling 2-point overtime victory, which left the standing room only crowd dazzled and breathless. St. Ignatius got outstanding performances from Michelle Kurowski (with 13 points), Morgan Rubanow (with 10 points), Julia Finlay (with 6 points) and Karly Cohen (with 3 points.)
Holy Family received stellar performances from Courtney Breen, who led all scores with 18 points, Erin Breen (with 11 points), Nicole DeGennaro (with 7 points), Nicole Robison (with 4 points) and Valerie Ahrens (with 2 points). Katie Leo, Jackie Vitanza and Loree Bailey turned in tremendous defensive efforts. Despite being outsized, Jennifer Osorio grabbed 8 rebounds.
