Charles Hearon was elected commissioner of the Hicksville Fire District during a public vote on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Hearon received 828 votes. William Schuckmann, the incumbent, received 705 votes and Robert Johnson received 80 votes. Fire commissioner terms are five years.

As fire commissioner, Hearon said he will work to increase public relations between the fire district by keeping the lines of communication open between elected officials and residents. According to the commissioner-elect, the district would also be more community-oriented if committees, comprised of residents and district officials, were formed to work toward solutions. In addition, Hearon said he will work for the community by challenging decisions that may have a negative impact on the neighborhood, especially the renovation and expansion of the district's Station 2.
