The Hicksville Flash U15 boys recently increased their winning streak to four in a row, blowing out Sound Beach by the score of 8-0. The Flash are on a goal-scoring frenzy, scoring 35 goals in their first four games.
The team, which entered in the Brentwood Tournament earlier this month, ran into a small problem at the last minute. Due to family and school obligations, the Flash found themselves shorthanded for the Saturday, Oct. 11th game. When the other U15 team from Hicksville refused to lend the Flash players, Coach Vito Sciascia went out and recruited Zaul Buruca, the newest Flash player, and as a result, the team played with no subs.
In the first game of the tournament, the Flash beat the Brentwood team 4-0. Goals were scored by Hector Valdes (2) and Zaul Buruca (2). The second game was against Freeport and despite losing 2-0 at half-time, the Flash scored three unanswered goals in the second half to go ahead 3-2. Goals in this game were once again scored by Hector Valdes (2) and Zaul Buruca (1). The referee missed an offside call with three seconds to go and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
On Sunday, Oct. 12, the Flash started with a 5-0 win over Aubendale. Goals were scored by Hector Valdes (2), Kyle Bloecker (2) and Zaul Buruca (1). During Sunday's second game, the team played a hard fought battle against Silver Lake's U16 division team, losing 1-0 on a questionable penalty kick. Their final game was basically a lesson to be learned when they lost 7-0 to a very talented and well-trained U16 Division 1 Brentwood Team.
Overall, the Flash had a good tournament, losing only to the older teams. They finished the tournament in a tie for third place with Silver Lake.
Coaches Vito Sciascia, Paul Masterson and Randy Bruckner are proud of the way the team is developing and the heart the players showed in the comeback against Freeport.
The Flash's roster for the Brentwood Tournament included: Hector Valdes, Daniel Alves, Danny Musinski, Kevin Myers, Teddy Bruckner, George Rios, Kyle Bloecker, Anthony Geslak, Brian Masterson, Michael Sanchez, Kevin Cardoza, Carlos Mendez, Kyle Collier, John Mira and Zaul Buruca. The Flash played without Devin Laviano and injured teammates Matt Oliva and Timothy Sciascia.
