Hicksville Firefighters Busy During Blackout
Hicksville volunteer firefighters responded to a total of 48 alarms during the Blackout of 2003 on Aug. 14-15. There were five fire calls, nine automatic fire alarms set off by the power failure, eight investigations resulting from problems arising from the blackout, eight rescue calls not caused by the blackout and five assistance to residents calls for various reasons.

Venditto Considers Exploring Councilmanic Seats
The form of government in Nassau County appears to be in a flux mode. Since the Nassau County Board of Supervisors was disbanded and turned into the present legislative form of government, the Town of Hempstead had councilmanic districts imposed on them by the court while North Hempstead residents voted in favor of them earlier this year.

Hicksville's Freshman Lacrosse Team Goes Undefeated
Perhaps there is but only one word to describe Hicksville High School's Freshman Boys Lacrosse Team, the Comets, based on their 2003 season - Perfection! The Comets completed the season finishing a perfect 14-0. Their incredible speed, pinpoint passing, tenacious defense and overall savvy enabled the lacrosse team to become one of, if not the quickest and most high-scoring offenses in the entire conference. They scored 124 goals in their 14-game season, a whopping average of 8.9 goals per game.

HASC Slated for American Ref-Fuel Tournament
The Hicksville American Soccer Club will compete in the annual American Ref-Fuel Soccer Tournament, New York State's largest youth soccer tournament with over 340 teams representing approximately 90 clubs. The three-day tournament, now in its 25th year, will be hosted by the East Meadow Soccer Club and played at up to 12 Nassau County sites Saturday, Aug 23 through Sunday, Aug. 25.
