More than 300 runners were on hand on South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville on May 24 for the 11th Annual 5K RunDay to benefit Central Nassau Guidance & Counseling Services.
New Race Director Carl Grossbard welcomed most of Long Island's speediest runners to the starting line of the run, which this year is part of the 21 race KeySpan Grand Prix of Long Island road races conducted by Long Island Track & Field. In honor of the occasion, KeySpan donated $1,000 to Central Nassau.
Top local finishers included Michael Anderson of Woodbury, 2nd place overall; Don Di Donato of Hicksville, 3rd place overall; Donna McMahon of Farmingdale, 2nd woman overall. Age Group first place finishers were John Del Maestro of Woodbury, Bert Jablon of Syosset and Robis DeGirmenci of Syosset. Age Group second place finishers were Collen Kenney of Hicksville and Lori Harfenes Melnik of Plainview and Age Group third place finishers were Alison Dolan of Hicksville and Julie Handy of Syosset.
