The Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held their most recent tournament on June 3 and, as luck would have it, it rained yet again. Although it looked like it might hold off a little, after the fifth or sixth group teed off, it started to rain and the rain persisted quite steadily for most of the tournament, getting heavier by the end.

The league started the first round of their match play tournament that day. There was a record turnout with 28 men in the match play and 11 who were not in the match play tournament, 39 golfers in all. The scores were all over the map, some very good rounds and some not so good. Wes Villazon had the overall low net with a score of 21. Other good rounds were by Al Lauritsen, with a net of 24 and John Geier, with a net of 25. Clarence Leder had a birdie on the 257 yard, par 4, fifth hole and Geier and Lauritsen had birdies on the 259 yard, par 4, first hole. Lauritsen also had pars on the fourth, fifth and ninth holes.

The next tournament will be held on Thursday, July 17.

Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 11 or less. Flight B is for players with a handicap of 12 or more. The league is a 100 percent handicap league and is always looking for new members. Any man who is at least 55 years of age is eligible. For more information, call Lou Neumann at 681-2056.
