On July 1, Hicksville resident Ray Pfeifer, a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department, set out for an 11-day trip with the US Air Force in Europe's (USAFE) Extreme Summer program. Pfeifer's role in the program was to represent his colleagues who were killed during the September 11, 2001 attacks. On that tragic morning, 12 men from his former company, Engine 40, were among the 343 firefighters who died in the rescue efforts. FULL STORY

The Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held their most recent tournament on June 3 and, as luck would have it, it rained yet again. Although it looked like it might hold off a little, after the fifth or sixth group teed off, it started to rain and the rain persisted quite steadily for most of the tournament, getting heavier by the end.
