Nassau County Legion Commander Joseph Slattery, Hicksville Post 421 Commander John Mauro and County Vice Commander Robert Reahl honored Hicksville firefighters Gary Lewis, Chris Fotopoulos, Justin Farrel, Jeff Foster and Chief Robert Chiz for their quick response to a woman in cardiac arrest. The Charles Wagner Post 421 of the American Legion recently held its Annual Awards and Ceremonies Night in salute of Nassau County Police Department's 2nd and 8th Precinct officers and Hicksville firefighters.
Commander John Mauro was the Master of Ceremonies for the night and the program included presentations of "Continuous Membership Certificates" to post members. The "Post Everlasting Ritual" marked, in solemn cadences, the passing of post 421 members who died this past year. Among the honored guests were the past commanders of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the US Masonic War Veterans.

Post 421 Commander John Mauro with Deputy Inspector Steven Williams of the Nassau 2nd Precinct and outstanding 8th Precinct officers Vincent Bellissimo and John Blanthorn who were able to halt, disarm and arrest members of the Hell's Angels and Pagans motorcycle gangs during a fight.

A buffet was served at the event, followed by music courtesy of Joe Ratto. Nassau County American Legion officers, and local political leaders, including Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto and Nassau County Legislator Edward Mangano, were also present.
