ProHEALTH Care Associates, a comprehensive, state-of-the-art, multi-specialty Long Island medical practice with offices in Lake Success, Glen Cove and Smithtown, is accepting applications for its annual junior tennis awards in memory of tennis legend Vitas Gerulaitis. ProHEALTH physicians are the team doctors for the U.S Open Tennis Championships, New York Jets, New York Islanders, and the New York Dragons.

Bob Russo, ProHEALTH's Director of Sports Science Education, whose resume also includes serving as a professional athletic trainer who has worked with such tennis greats as Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and John McEnroe, spoke about the annual awards that benefit many young tennis players. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to promote this popular sport, to recognize and assist young players who show promise, and at the same time honor the memory of Vitas Gerulaittis."

The award competition is open to junior tennis players under 18 who submit a written application. Awards totaling $5,000 will be given out to students in a variety of categories, including "Most Improved Player," "Most Valuable Player," and "Scholar Athlete."

ProHEALTH will also be choosing recipients for its "Sportsmanship" and "Team Spirit" awards. The competition is also open to players who use wheelchairs or have other disabilities. Winners will be announced at ProHEALTH's Annual Health Fair, which takes place on Saturday, May 3, at ProHEALTH's headquarters in Lake Success, Long Island. Last year John McEnroe, Vinny Testaverde and Mark Parrish were on hand to present the awards to sons and daughters of New York City Fire Fighters and Police officers.

Applications for ProHEALTH's annual tennis awards in memory of tennis legend Vitas Gerulaitis, must be received by April 15. Interested students can get more information from their school's athletic directors and coaches, or they can call Bob Russo at ProHEALTH 622-6015.
