Barge Explodes Off Staten Island
An explosion and fire at a Staten Island oil storage facility last Friday sent thousands of gallons of gasoline spewing into the nearby waters, backed up traffic for hours and shook nearby homes. Two people were killed and one seriously injured when a barge - owned by Hicksville-based Bouchard Transportation Company, exploded while unloading gasoline at approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. At press time, an investigation into the cause of the explosion was still ongoing.

Hicksville Crusader Football and Cheerleading Registration
Registration for the Hicksville Crusaders Football and Cheerleading for the 2003 season will take place at Levittown Hall on Monday, March 3 and Monday, April 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Practice is set to begin the first week of August.

Townson University's 2003 Tiger Gymnasts
Hicksville resident Jenn Baierlein, a senior at Townson University in Townson, MD, is a co-captain of the Tiger's for the second consecutive year. The eighth-leading scorer in Townson history with 1,466.250 points, Baierlein has competed as an all-around in every meet of her college career and been named as a first team All-East Atlantic Gymnastic League All-EAGL) selection as an all-around two years in a row and been named first team All-EAGL on bars the last two years.
