On Thursday, Feb. 27, the Hicksville community will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hicksville Council of PTAs Founder's Day at the Milleridge Cottage. The 2003 Founder's Day District Honored Guest will be Terrie Perkowski, a parent and longtime member of the school district's PTAs.
Perkowski has been active in the school district for the past 16 years. She has served on all levels from elementary to middle school to high school and is currently president of the Hicksville High School PTA. In addition, she has served on various district committees, including the staff hiring committee and the curriculum committee.
"Terrie is not one to take on a job and not complete it," said Marybeth Krummenacker, past council president and current president of Hicksville SEPTA. "She keeps saying, 'I don't deserve this,' but she does because she never says no to anything she is asked to do. She is always willing to jump in and do any job that needs to get done."
Nancy Rooney, co-chair of the Founder's Day Committee along with Krummenacker, agreed, saying, "Terrie has always been an inspiration to those who work with her. Her many years of devotion to the children of Hicksville are greatly appreciated."
For Perkowski, being honored is an honor in and of itself. "What I have done in PTA for the past 16 years has been a labor of love," she said. "To be recognized by my peers for this is the greatest honor imaginable."
