DEC Announces Meeting on General Instrument Site
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 to present its plan for interim remediation of groundwater contamination emanating from the General Instrument Corporation Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site. The meeting will be held in the Dutch Lane Elementary School located at 50 Stewart Avenue in Hicksville.

PTA Council to Celebrate 50th Founder's Day
On Thursday, Feb. 27, the Hicksville community will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hicksville Council of PTAs Founder's Day at the Milleridge Cottage. The 2003 Founder's Day District Honored Guest will be Terrie Perkowski, a parent and longtime member of the school district's PTAs.

Way to Go Rising Stars!
The Hicksville American Soccer Club's U10 Rising Stars had a great time at the Oceanside Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25. In between singing Karaoke, they managed to win two games, tie one and lose the other, bringing them into the semifinals tied for second place. The team ended up coming in third place. Danielle Tancora had a great tournament in goal and Jennifer Polito won MVP for her great defense work. The team missed players Taran Murray, Adrianna Licitra and Yasmeen Gharnit.

Correction
Due to a typographical error, an entire sentence was accidentally left out of last week's article, "Holy Family 7th Grade Girls - LI Champs!" The sentence, which would have appeared in the third paragraph of the article, should have read, "Valerie Ahrens harassed St. Rose's point guard all over the court while Katie Leo and Nicole DeGennaro took turns preventing St. Rose's leading scorer from getting the ball."
