Cause of Gas Leak, Explosion Deemed An Accident
An investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Arson/Bomb Squad has determined that an explosion and fire that destroyed a Hicksville home on Jan. 24 was accidental, the result of a gas pipeline that was damaged during excavation in the street. The damage subsequently caused a gas leak into the Nelson Avenue home's basement and was ignited by an unknown source inside the home.

Running Club to Host Clinic on Long Distance Running
The featured program at the Tuesday, Feb. 18 meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club will be a clinic on Training for Distance Running, with special emphasis on training for the 2003 Canon Long Island Half Marathon. Ed Melnik, who is the coach of the Running Club's Men's and Women's Racing Teams, as well as the principal of The Big Finish, a race timing company, will chair the clinic.

Boy's Varsity Takes Bethpage Tournament
The Hicksville Boy's Varsity Basketball Team won the annual Dad's Club Tournament held at Bethpage High School on Dec. 27 and 28.
