Hicksville Flash Compete in Local Tournaments
The Hicksville Flash Boys U14 Soccer Team competed in two recent indoor tournaments. On Saturday, Jan. 18 in the East Meadow Tournament, they came in place and on Sunday, Jan. 19, they came in second and third place with a split squad in the Oceanside "Rudy Lamonica" Memorial Tournament. Their only lose was in the finals to a Division I Staten Island team from the New York Cosmopolitan League.
The East Meadow Tournament was held at Sporttime in Bethpage where guest player Anthony Trifillio was named "Best Offensive Player" for his fine finishing skills that led the tournament in goals scored. The Flash's captain, Daniel Alves, was named the tournament's MVP. Alves' great teamwork and unselfishness set up many of the goals with sharp passes.
Kevin Myers, Kevin Cardoza, Timothy Sciascia and Brian Masterson assisted on many of the goals and kept the pressure on their opponents while Michael Sanchez and Kenny Garger played as solid as ever, letting only a few shots on goaltender Joey Dzienius who recorded three shut outs. The Flash finished with a record of 4-1.
The next day in Oceanside, with a split squad, they had to meet each other in the semi-finals. Coaches Vito Sciascia and Paul Masterson just took a seat in the stands and watched this hard-fought battle go into overtime.
The Flash Red, comprised of Danny Alves, Kevin Myers, Kenny Garger, Carlos Mendez, George Rios, Brian Scott and guest player Timmy Mertz, made it to the finals and finished in second place. The Flash White, including Kevin Cardoza, Teddy Bruckner, Michael Sanchez, Brian Masterson, Joey Dzienius and guest players James Austen and Anthony Trifillio, came in third place.
Danny Alves was named "Best Defensive Player" showing that his defensive ability is just as strong as his offensive attack and making him a real leader on this team. Coaches Sciascia, Coach Masterson and Coach Randy Bruckner were very pleased with the way the team stepped up their game to the next level. The Flash would like to thank James Austen, Timmy Mertz and Anthony Trifillio for guest playing and all their contributions on the field. Best of luck to them and their team, the Hicksville Warriors, in their upcoming season
