A Nelson Avenue home was destroyed on Friday, Jan. 24 due to an explosion and fire caused by a natural gas leak in the street.

Drive-Thru Proposed for Broadway Property
The Oyster Bay Town Board heard testimonies last week for and against a proposal to construct a Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurant with a drive-thru window on Broadway in Hicksville. At this time, lawyers and experts for the applicant presented the board with a request for a special use permit while all members of the Hicksville community present at the hearing voiced their opposition to yet another fast food restaurant.

Holy Family Finishes Season With Loss in Diocese Playoffs
On Jan. 16, the Holy Family girls traveled to Babylon to play a tall and talented St. Joseph team in the opening round of the playoffs. They held their opponent to six first-half points and went on to defeat St. Joseph 31-25, extending their winning streak to eight games. Lauren Balla led all scorers with nine points as Kaitlyn Picardi added eight as she put on a clinic with her passing and dribbling.

Hicksville Flash Compete in Local Tournaments
The Hicksville Flash Boys U14 Soccer Team competed in two recent indoor tournaments. On Saturday, Jan. 18 in the East Meadow Tournament, they came in place and on Sunday, Jan. 19, they came in second and third place with a split squad in the Oceanside "Rudy Lamonica" Memorial Tournament. Their only lose was in the finals to a Division I Staten Island team from the New York Cosmopolitan League.
