Peace Convoy Spreads Word About Bishops' Doubts on Iraq War
As the possible start of a war on Iraq draws closer, a group of peace activists for the second time this month will be visiting parishes in Nassau County, including St. Ignatius Loyola Church and Our Lady of Mercy Church in Hicksville. The purpose of the event, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, is to remind parishioners and priests that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has overwhelmingly approved a statement asking President George W. Bush to "step back from the brink of war" against Iraq.

Supervisor Venditto Seeks Grant for Street Lighting Improvements
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto is seeking a $300,000 grant through the New York State Transportation Department Multi-Modal program for street lighting improvements along major roads in Hicksville, Massapequa, Farmingdale, Bethpage and neighboring communities.

Holy Family's 8th Grade Girls Make Playoffs
The Holy Family eighth grade girl's basketball team clinched a playoff berth earlier this month and completed the season on an amazing season-ending seven game-winning streak. The streak was highlighted in the final game, held Sunday, Jan. 5, versus St. Bernard's - the 2002 defending champion and 2003 conference leader, in Holy Family's gym. The highly regarded rivals from Levittown were no match as the home team opened up an 18-point lead early and never looked back, winning 46 to 25.
