The 3rd Annual "Run for Their Lives" eight kilometer Long Island Track and Field Championship was held on Oct. 27 through the trails at Bethpage State Park.

Local award winners included Don Di Donato of Hicksville, who was the sixth finisher overall and the first "master" (age 40 plus) finisher, crossing the finish line in 29:15. Leo Murillo of Hicksville scored third in the 45-49 age group in 34:20, and Alejandra Chacod of Hicksville was the third finisher among the women in the 25-29 age group in 19:55. Other Hicksville residents who successfully completed the run included Kevin Kremler (36:27), Gerard Ruiz (48:54) and Vinnie Lofaro (57:29).
