DEC to Discuss Soil Remediation at Sylvania Plant
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a public meeting to present its proposal for soil remediation at the former Sylvania Electric Products Incorporated Facility located on Cantiague Road in Hicksville. The meeting will be held in the Burns Avenue Elementary School on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Like millions of viewers throughout the country, Hicksville resident Shannon Fries tuned in last season to watch the weekly ABC television series The Bachelor. This season, the 26-year-old graphic artist had firsthand experience as she was one of the 25 women selected to appear on the show. The latest "reality show" to hit the small screen in recent years, The Bachelor provides 25 single women with the opportunity to vie for one eligible man's hand in marriage.

Holy Family's CYO Basketball Update
Erin Breen's hustles and intensity served as the catalyst as Holy Family, which is 7-0 this season, raced to a 10-0 lead in route to a 47-31 victory against St. Frances. Erin scored 12 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. Holy Family's balanced scoring attack was led by Courtney Breen, who scored 13 points while Valerie Ahrens and Nicole Robison scored nine points and six points, respectively. Nicole DeGennaro (two points) and Katie Leo turned in superlative defensive performances while Michelle Vicidomini (two points) and Jennifer Osorio (three points) controlled the backboards.

If gliding gracefully across the ice is your idea of a great winter activity, get your ice skating blades sharpened so you'll be ready for the opening of the Town of Oyster Bay 2002-03 ice skating season the day after Thanksgiving, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto.
