Sophie Oliveri, of N. Massapequa, formerly of Hicksville, died on Nov. 12, 2002. Wife of Frederick. Mother and mother-in-law of Thomas, Frederick and Gina, Janice and Robert Catalano and Denise and Enrique Vargas. Sister of Helen Mast. Grandmother of Thomas, Frederick, Melinda, Robert, Brigette, Christopher, Kymberlie and Eriq. Arrangements were made by the McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale. Edward J. Holmes, 80, died on Nov. 12, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath after a long illness. Born in Flushing, Queens on Aug. 22, 1922, he was a son of the late Robert and May McAlevey Holmes. He was married in Oyster Bay on Nov. 16, 1951 to the former Alice Doran, who predeceased him on Feb. 7, 1999.

A veteran of WWII, Edward served with the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He was employed as a postal clerk on LI and has resided in Avoca, NY since 1992.

His family includes his two brothers, Robert Holmes of Florida and Walter Holmes of Alaska; his niece, Jean (Robert) Crawford of Avoca; two nephews, Don (Madeline) Loveless of Hicksville and Edward (Margaret) Jackson of Oyster Bay; sister-in-law, Jean Jackson of Oyster Bay; and his cousin, Jerry McAlevey of Florida. Besides his parents and wife, Edward was predeceased by his son, Robert Stark in 1973.

Arrangements were made by the Bond-Davis & Bishop Funeral Home, Avoca. Funeral and committal service with Rev. Richard Shatzel officiating. Interment Beth National Cemetery.
