The Hicksville School District will hold a Memorial Dedication Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Hicksville High School to dedicate the high school flagpole and surrounding area in memory of Hicksville school alumni and community members who were lost in the national tragedy on September 11, 2001.
At the dedication, a marble memorial will be unveiled that includes a dedication statement, an inspirational quotation as well as an engraved drawing, resembling a high school senior's artistic representation of the events of September 11, 2001.
Family members of victims and honored guests will receive bulbs to plant in a newly created garden. Student performances at the ceremony will include a poetry reading and a performance by the wind ensemble. District officials, board of education members, students and residents will be on hand. The board president will speak and students will read the names of members of the Hicksville community, alumni and residents, who were victims of the tragedy. A reception will immediately follow in the high school lobby.
"We have spent much time planning an appropriate and sensitive memorial marking the events of September 11," said Superintendent of Schools Maureen Bright. "We are honored to be able to make this dedication in the memory of those who were lost from our community."
