Holy Family's offense sputtered, but their defense excelled. The result was a thrilling 22-18 come-from-behind victory over Sacred Heart and resulted in the 3-0 team record.
Although they were trailing 12-7 at halftime, Holy Family turned up the defensive pressure and limited Sacred Heart to just two second-half field goals. Nicole DeGennaro (4 points) secured the victory with two clutch-free throws in the final minutes.
Courtney Breen led both teams in scoring (12), rebounds (12) and steals (8) while Nicole Robison scored two key second-half baskets to spearhead the comeback. Valerie Ahren and Katie Leo's aggressive defensive totally disrupted Sacred Heart's offense while Erin Breen, Jennifer Osorio and Michelle Vicidomini out-rebounded their taller opponents.
Holy Family's defense continued to sparkle and this time so did the offense, as Holy Family upped its record to 4-0 with a 43-20 victory over St. Phillip's.
Holy Family's full court press totally befuddled their opponents, creating numerous turnovers, resulting in easy baskets. Courtney Breen put on a scintillating performance in the first quarter when she scored 14 of her game high 20 points. Many of her baskets came off a great feed from Valerie Ahren who finished with eight assists and eight steals.
Nicole DeGennaro displayed a hot shooting hand, pumping in 10 points while Jennifer Osorio scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Leading the game in rebounds Erin Breen and Michelle Vicidomini with seven boards apiece, Katie Leo with two points and three steals and Nicole Robison with three steals.
