There has been something missing in the Hicksville community for some time, but now it's back - better than ever and that something is football. On Sunday, Sept. 22, the 5/6-year-old Hicksville Crusaders Football Team had their first victory, defeating Floral Park 18-12.
Both teams played a great game. The offense was led by quarterback/runningback Patrick McCormick who rushed for over 100 yards. Runningbacks Robbie Culp, James Culhane and Michael Tancredi score touchdowns for the Crusaders. Great blocking by the offensive line of Matt Schumacher, Ryan Kelly, Brian Lang, Joe Kelly, James Sagos and John Morrisey. The defense, led by linebacker Brian Lang who along with the rest of the defense, including Matt Rubin, Lucas Bookstaver, Louis Sposato, Patrick McCormick, James Culhane, Robbie Culp and Joe Kelly, did an outstanding job throughout the game.
During their first game, the Crusaders played their hearts out, but were unfortunately defeated by Farmingdale 36-12. Robbie Culp and James Culhane scored for the Crusaders. Patrick McCormick and Brian Lang led the defense.
Football is here to stay in Hicksville. Home games are placed at Hicksville Middle School on Sundays. The schedule for the 5-6 year old team is as follows:
