I am still very confused as to why the Hicksville Board of Education voted in Maureen Bright as our new superintendent. She already has a bad reputation with our teachers in the district, not to mention many of the taxpayers of Hicksville - not to rehash the 9/11 incident.

If there is a shortage of superintendents on Long Island like I have read, why couldn't we have had Maureen Bright step in temporarily until we found a superintendent that we could all work with? Would you buy a car that is a lemon because you needed a car or take the bus until you saved up enough money for the dependable one? I feel that our district has been headed in the right direction this past year, but feel we will lose more of our good teachers and neighbors if we don't have a board of education and a superintendent that listens to us and does not fight us.

The whole vote with the old board members is really ridiculous. Why on earth would a vote be taken 11 days before the new board members are sworn in? Of course, Maureen Bright's superintendent position should have been voted by those newly appointed board members that are now sitting on the board. How about a re-vote? We did it for the bonds. Then if she does get her job fairly, we can all take it at that and stop the controversy that is surrounding her before she is even in the job.

I still do not understand this whole thing. Why can't our school district do what is right for our children, teachers and parents? Why can't we have a school district that truly involves the community and listens to what they have to say? Why do we always have to have some type of controversy?
