If you click your heels together three times and repeat to yourself "there's no place like home" you'd still be stuck in Hicksville but nobody bothered explaining that to the spinmeisters of this community. Even when they find fault in the manner in which Maureen Bright was appointed by the outgoing board's last ditch attempt at a power play to put in a person that is loathed by the teaching staff of the district, they still spin it in their favor.

Who does Dolores Garger think she's fooling in her June 28 letter when she states, "I think they ignored the possibility that after July 1, given the current market for superintendents, and given the importance of continuity, Mrs. Bright most likely would have been appointed, along with the input of the new board."

Now let's break this down to simple mathematics Ms. Garger. If there are seven members on the board and two of the seven (Augustine Tornatore and Alesia Sommers) voted "no" on Ms. Bright's appointment at the June 19 board meeting you have a majority. When you state that Mrs. Bright, 11 days down the line would have been most likely appointed after the dynamics of the board would have drastically changed with the swearing in of the two new board members, you are fabricating an outright lie. Tornatore, Caryn Calabrese and James Pino have made it more than clear in meetings with the public that Mrs. Bright had to go. So let's get back to the math lesson: Tornatore plus Calabrese plus Pino plus Sommers equals four. Four out of seven is a majority, leaving Mrs. Bright at the unemployment center.

Let's go back to Ms. Garger's statement "given the current market for superintendents and given the importance of continuity..." When it comes to the market for superintendents, the outgoing board didn't even attempt to make believe they were looking for a qualified person to fill the shoes of Dr. Finn. As to the question of the importance of continuity, have you ever bothered looking at where this community stands academically? If continuity translates to outright arrogance accompanied by incompetence, then I'm certain that my children will have a great future in a dead end job in the fast food industry. Granted, Martha Stewart's stock has recently gone down, but change still is a good thing.

One last parting shot in regard to Jim Black's misused but heartfelt choice of words. I take it as an honor that I, and several others, have been a thorn in his side along with the rest of his remaining and outgoing friends. In my opinion, he represents the lowest common denominator of a failed political party that does not have the grace to bow out with dignity. I have referred to Mr. Black in past letters to the editor as a political wannabe. Hopefully his reputation, those of the other dinosaurs that left along with him and those that will eventually be voted out, will never hold public office again.
